Welcome to American Food Safety Services.  We've recently changed our name from Technical and Business Services, LLC but the same staff and leadership is under the new banner.

We've been providing premier services that assist companies with meeting the complex array of regulatory and best practice standards needed to grow business in the food and beverage supply chain.

Larry L Hood, Ph.D.
American Food Safety Services' (AFSS) Training and Consulting Center is under the leadership of Dr. Larry L Hood.  Dr. Hood is a graduate of the University of Illinois.  He completed postgraduate  requirements at Michigan State University with specializations in food microbiology (pathogenic species), thermal processing, and food chemistry (protein structure and function). 

He is the founder of Technical and Business Services, LLC, the parent company of AFSS based in New Jersey.  He is a registered SQF consultant for conventional and high risk categories, as well as an OSHA trainer.  AFSS  serves clients in the North American food supply chain from primary production to manufacture and distribution.  This includes beverages, confections, processed food, dairy products, fresh produce, seafood, baked goods, prepared meals (commissaries), food ingredients, and nutritional supplements.  Check AFSS consulting registrations for further information.

He has more than 30 years of diversified experience that includes technical and general management and line assignments within the food and beverage manufacturing and ingredient supplier sectors.  These have included branded organizations such as Quaker Oats, Continental Baking, Johnson & Johnson, Inc., and Celanese-America.   

Dr. Hood has more than 30 publications and patents dealing with food science, regulatory affairs, and food safety.  He has been actively involved with helping North American companies implement the Safe Quality Food standard since 2005.  He was among the first registered SQF trainers and Consultants in North America and has served as a member on several SQFI committees and assists the SQF Institute with its training of auditors.
